Canada to Welcome 1.5Million Permanent Residents by 2025

canada-news

In an effort to attract talent to address skill gaps in important industries and manage social, economic, and demographic concerns in the years to come, Canada is embracing immigration. To address the labour shortages, the Canadian government has set “record-breaking” immigration targets of 1.5 million new immigrants by 2025.

Growing the economy, reuniting families, and providing asylum to refugees fleeing persecution abroad are some of the objectives of immigration.

New Immigration Target

Many Canadians have turned to immigration as a result of the severe labour shortage. The new immigration plan promotes immigration as a tactic to help employers in Canada discover potential workers. It aims to draw in the talent needed to fill gaps in critical industries, including healthcare, skilled trades, manufacturing, and technology.

As per the plan, Canada aims to invite the following:

  • 465,000 new immigrants in 2023.
  • 485,000 new immigrants in 2024.
  • 500,000 new immigrants in 2025.

Rise in Express Entry and PNP

The strategy underlines the growing emphasis on luring new immigrants to all parts of the nation, particularly rural and small-town areas. In order to meet the targeted labour shortages, it also wants to expand regional initiatives like the Provincial Nominee Program and the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program.

Canada’s most common route for economic immigration is still Express Entry. It now manages three Federal High Skilled (FHS) programs, including the Canadian Experience Class, the Federal Skilled Worker Program, and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (CEC).

The second-most popular route for earning Canada permanent resident visa from India, the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) will be another leading intake route for economic immigrants.

Increase in PGP Admissions

The goal of Canada is to reconnect families. The Immigration Level Plan for 2023–2025 lists Canada’s Family Class Sponsorship as the second-largest permanent residence category, closely behind economic immigration. A spouse, partner, child, or another family member may recommend a candidate for Canada permanent residence when they apply under the Family Class Sponsorship program. Canada is going to welcome 80,000 new immigrants every year under the Spouse, Partner and Children Program, and the intake target for PGP (Parents and Grandparents) program is also going to rise in the coming three years.
